I want to actually LIKE learning
Megan here! The founder and owner/operator of The Community Classroom. I want to take a moment to talk about a response that we received from a new fourth-grade client on their Learner Questionnaire during intake that stopped me in my tracks. It reminded me of why The Community Classroom exists and why our mission is important.
One of the questions is “If you could wave a magic wand, what would you look like as a learner in 6 months?” And the response: “I want to actually like learning.” As I read this, my heart sank. I got a pit in my stomach. Why does this elementary school student not like learning anymore? What happened? My educator and mama heart just broke into a million pieces.
But then something sparked. Something changed. That’s what WE do at The Community Classroom. That’s why we hand-match tutors and students with relationship-building in mind. That’s the essence of our mission—it’s not just about catching up on content, getting ahead on learning, but it’s about FINDING JOY in learning again. We can do that!
So what do we ACTUALLY do at The Community Classroom? Yes, we tutor. We help with academic coaching. We prepare for tests and the SAT. BUT. What we really do is help children LIKE learning again. Have fun. Find joy. Gain confidence. That’s the stuff that really matters.
