The earth has been making extraordinary things for billions of years. On November 11, we are going to dig in and find out what.

Rock Lab is a half-day geology and jewelry making program where young geologists get their hands on real rocks, real minerals, and real science — and then turn their discoveries into something beautiful to wear home. This is not a passive experience. This is hands-on, certified teacher-led earth science where kids scratch, test, identify, and create their way through the remarkable story of the ground beneath their feet.

Activities may include:

Rock and Mineral Identification — examine real rocks and minerals with magnifying glasses and field guides, identifying specimens like real geologists and discovering the surprising stories each one tells.

Mohs Hardness Scale Testing — scratch test a variety of rocks and minerals to determine their hardness on the real scientific scale that geologists use. Which rock scratches which? The answers are always surprising.

Jewelry Making — using real rocks, minerals, and gems, young geologists will design and create their very own piece of wearable geology — a beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry that tells the story of the earth in the most stylish way possible.

Every camper leaves with their handmade jewelry, their crystal growing experiment, and a head full of earth science knowledge that will make them look at every rock they encounter with completely new eyes. 💛
