Somewhere beneath our feet, the story of life on earth is written in stone. On November 11, young paleontologists are going to read it.

Fossil Lab is a half-day paleontology program that takes kids deep into the ancient world of fossils — what they are, how they form, what they tell us about life on earth millions of years ago, and how real scientists find and study them. Through hands-on excavation, real specimens, fossil casting, and the kind of deep-time thinking that makes young minds genuinely expand, young paleontologists will discover that the past is closer than they think — and more extraordinary than they ever imagined.

Activities may include:

Fossil Identification — examine real fossils with magnifying glasses and field guides, identifying specimens and discovering the remarkable creatures that left them behind millions of years ago.

Fossil Excavation — dig real fossils out of plaster or sand using brushes and tools just like real paleontologists in the field. The moment of discovery is always unforgettable.

Make Your Own Fossil — press objects into clay to create beautiful fossil replicas and explore the real science of how fossils form over millions of years.

Every camper leaves with their fossil cast, their clay fossil replica, and a genuine sense of wonder about the ancient world hiding just beneath the surface of everyday life. 💛

Pair with Rock Lab (9:00 AM–12:00 PM) and Lunch Bunch (12:00–1:00 PM, just $10) for a complete and extraordinary day of earth science exploration — from the rocks beneath our feet to the creatures that roamed the earth millions of years ago.

Fossil Lab meets November 11 from 1:00–4:00 PM at High Five Books, 141 N Main Street, Florence MA.
