Jo-Ann Konieczny is a special education middle school teacher at Summit Academy, the therapeutic day school at Amherst Regional Public Schools. She has extensive training in Orton Gillingham, remedial math curriculum and teaching, and academic coaching, as well restorative practices, ABA, and trauma-informed teaching methods. Jo-Ann teaches by building relationships, listening, and creating games and fun challenges around a student’s interests.  Before teaching in Amherst, she ran the therapeutic middle school program in Turners Falls and taught in the autism program in Holyoke. In her first career, Jo-Ann worked in the magazine publishing industry and moved to Northampton in 1994 to be the managing editor of FamilyPC Magazine, a monthly magazine about families and computing owned by The Walt Disney Company.
