Families...this is one reason why playing games can make a difference with your child and their math development. This math learner is subitizing, which is recognizing the number of. items in a group without counting them. How did she know the five that she saw? Why, pips (the dots) on dice, of course! She frequently plays games with dice, so a group of 5 is easy for her to recognize.

These cards are from a game called Tiny Polka Dots, and we highly recommend it for playing at home with your kids! It`s 16 games (at least!) in just the one deck. And the questions this teacher asks are just SUPREME, leaving so much room for student thinking.
