Ages 8–11 | Ages 12+ as Counselors-in-Training (CITs)
Calling all manga fans and curious readers! Manga Club is a weekly gathering for kids who love stories told through art, action, and emotion. Through reading, discussion, art, and creative storytelling, participants will explore manga as both a literary form and a powerful way to communicate ideas and feelings.
Each session will begin with shared reading from age-appropriate manga, focusing on how stories are told through panels, expressions, pacing, and visual details. Kids will practice reading manga format (right-to-left), talk about characters and choices, and make connections between the story and their own experiences—building both literacy skills and social-emotional awareness.
Creative time will invite kids to:
- ✍️ Write dialogue, captions, or short scenes
- 🎨 Design characters, settings, and expressions
- 📖 Create short manga panels or mini-comics
- 🧠 Explore themes like friendship, perseverance, identity, and growth
Participants ages 12 and up are invited to join as Counselors-in-Training (CITs), supporting younger readers, helping facilitate discussions and activities, and building leadership and collaboration skills—all while deepening their own understanding of storytelling and visual literacy.
Manga Club is perfect for kids who:
- Love graphic novels and visual storytelling
- Enjoy drawing, writing, and creative expression
- Are building confidence as readers
- Want to connect with peers over shared interests
