Maxwell (Max) Toth is thrilled to be joining the Community Classroom tutoring team! A native of Hartford County, Connecticut, Max currently serves as the Assistant Director of Principal Gifts Operations for the University of Massachusetts Amherst Foundation (UMAF), overseeing project management and driving operational efficiencies for the team that engages individuals capable of making seven-figure or higher philanthropic commitments. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies and French Studies from Bard College, and is currently completing his Master of Public Policy at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Max is no stranger to the tutoring world. During his undergraduate years, he was a writing tutor for both his campus Learning Commons and the Bard Prison Initiative, the largest degree-granting prison education program in the country. He also worked as a student aide at the Abigail Lundquist Botstein Nursery School. Max’s pedagogy is based on three pillars: kindness, connection, and collaboration; he is wholly committed to helping his tutees succeed.
At present, Max is a volunteer classroom reader with Link to Libraries, serves on the board of Hartford Stage in central Connecticut, and is also involved in volunteer efforts with the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
Outside of work, he enjoys singing with his choir, lap swimming, and listening to his favorite audiobooks.
