SUMMARY:All About Bats
DESCRIPTION:All About Bats\nOctober 12 | 9:00 AM–12:00 PM | High Five Books | Ages 6–9 (Ages 10+ as CITs) \nThey are mysterious. They are misunderstood. And they are some of the most fascinating creatures on the planet. This October\, we are celebrating them. \nAll About Bats is a half-day science and nature program that takes kids deep into the remarkable world of bats — their biology\, their superpowers\, their vital role in our ecosystem\, and the surprising science behind how they navigate the dark. Through hands-on activities\, real specimens\, and the kind of curiosity-driven exploration that makes learning feel like an adventure\, young bat scientists will walk away with a whole new appreciation for one of nature’s most extraordinary creatures. \nActivities may include: \nBat Glider Engineering — design\, build\, and test your very own bat-inspired glider. Explore the science of flight\, lift\, drag\, and what makes bat wings such a brilliant piece of natural engineering. \nBat Anatomy Exploration — dive into what makes bats so uniquely designed. From their echolocation and remarkable hearing to their wing structure and nocturnal adaptations\, bats are built for the night in ways that will completely blow young minds. \nEcholocation Science — how do bats navigate in total darkness? Explore the fascinating physics of sound waves and echolocation through hands-on activities that let kids experience this remarkable sense for themselves. \nBat Myths vs. Facts — separate the scary stories from the science and discover why bats are not only harmless but genuinely essential to the health of our ecosystem. \nBat Habitat & Conservation — learn where bats live\, what threatens them\, and what we can do to protect these vital creatures in our own communities. Yes\, we will most likely build our own bat cave! \nEvery camper leaves with a deeper understanding of and genuine affection for one of nature’s most misunderstood animals. Perfect for curious kids who love wildlife\, science\, and the thrill of discovering that something they thought was scary is actually completely amazing. \nLooking for a full day of fall science fun? Combine All About Bats (9:00 AM–12:00 PM) with Lunch Bunch (12:00–1:00 PM\, just $10) and Flower Power Camp (1:00–4:00 PM) for a complete\, joy-filled day of exploration and discovery. \nAll About Bats meets October 12 from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM at High Five Books\, 141 N Main Street\, Florence MA \nExisting students: Please register through Tutorbird. \nNew students: register below by clicking “1/2 day pop-up program” then select the correct data (October 12) and time (9 am). \n  \n

SUMMARY:Flower Power: Botany + Art
DESCRIPTION:Flower Power: Botany and Art for Kids\nOctober 12 | 1:00–4:00 PM | High Five Books | Ages 6–9 (Ages 10+ as CITs) \nNature has been quietly doing extraordinary things all season long. On October 12\, we are going to slow down and take a closer look. \nFlower Power is a half-day science and nature program that invites kids into the beautiful\, surprising\, and endlessly fascinating world of flowers and leaves. Through hands-on exploration\, real specimens\, and the kind of gentle\, curious science that makes the natural world feel like magic\, young botanists will discover what is really going on inside a flower\, why leaves are the shape they are\, and how plants have been solving problems that humans are still trying to figure out. \nThis is not just arts and crafts. This is real botany — joyful\, hands-on\, and designed to make kids look at every flower and leaf they encounter for the rest of their lives with completely new eyes. \nActivities may include: \n\nFlower Dissection — carefully take apart a real flower and discover its hidden world. Petals\, sepals\, stamens\, pistils\, and pollen — every part has a purpose and a story. Young botanists will label and learn each one like real plant scientists.\nLeaf Rubbings — explore the science of leaf veins and their remarkable structure through the beautiful and satisfying art of leaf rubbing. Every leaf tells a different story — and every rubbing is a one-of-a-kind piece of art.\nNatural Dye Experiment — discover the remarkable pigments hiding inside flowers and plants and use them to dye fabric or paper in the most beautiful\, surprising\, and completely natural way. No synthetic dyes. No chemicals. Just the extraordinary color that nature has been making all along.\nFlower Pressing & Preserving — carefully press and preserve real flowers using traditional botanical techniques — creating a beautiful keepsake that captures the color\, shape\, and science of the natural world in a way that will last long after October 12 is over.\n\nEvery camper leaves with their pressed flower keepsake\, their natural dye creation\, and a deeper understanding of the natural world right outside their door — and the kind of curiosity that turns every walk into a science adventure.  \nLooking for a full day of fall science fun? Combine All About Bats (9:00 AM–12:00 PM) with a supervised Lunch Bunch break (just $10) and Flower Power (1:00–4:00 PM) for a complete\, joy-filled day of exploration and discovery. \nFlower Power meets October 12 from 1–4:00 PM at High Five Books\, 141 N Main Street\, Florence MA. \nExisting students: Register through Tutorbird. New students: Please select “1/2 day pop-up program” and then select the correct data (October 12) and time (1pm-4). \n
