SUMMARY:Shark Lab
DESCRIPTION:Jaw-dropping science is coming to High Five Books — and we are not sorry about that pun.  \nShark Lab is a half-day deep dive into one of the ocean’s most fascinating\, most misunderstood\, and most magnificent creatures. Through hands-on science\, real specimens\, and the kind of curiosity-driven exploration that makes learning feel like an adventure\, young marine biologists will discover what makes sharks one of nature’s most perfectly designed animals — and why they deserve so much more than their scary reputation. \nYoung shark scientists will: \n\nShark Tooth Identification Lab — investigate real shark teeth from our very own classroom collection\, using field guides and magnifying glasses to identify the species each tooth came from. Real paleontology. Real discovery. Real cool.\nShark Anatomy Exploration — dive deep into what makes sharks such remarkably designed creatures. From their electroreceptors and lateral lines to their cartilage skeletons and extraordinary senses\, sharks are built for the ocean in ways that will absolutely blow young minds.\nShark Size Showdown — head outside with sidewalk chalk and map out the true size of different shark species right on the pavement. The whale shark alone will leave every camper speechless. \nShark Skin Up Close — discover why shark skin feels like sandpaper and explore the science of dermal denticles — the tiny tooth-like scales that cover a shark’s body and make it one of nature’s most ingenious designs.\nBuoyancy Science — why don’t sharks sink? Explore the fascinating science of how sharks use their oil-filled livers to stay afloat — and what that tells us about the engineering genius of nature.\nShark Tooth Necklace Making — using their very own take-home shark tooth\, campers will create a beautiful shark tooth necklace — building fine motor skills and creating a wearable keepsake they will treasure long after camp ends. \n\nEvery camper goes home with their very own real shark tooth! \nPerfect for curious kids who love animals\, science\, the ocean\, and the thrill of discovering that the world is even more amazing than they thought. Just the right amount of toothy. Not too scary. We promise.  \nShark Lab meets September 23 from 12-4 PM at High Five Books\, 141 N Main Street\, Florence MA. \nExisting students: Please log into Tutorbird to register. Email Megan if you have an issue (megan@thecommunityclassroom.com). \nNew students: Register below after clicking “1/2 day pop-up program” for the category. Please ensure the correct date is chosen (the 23rd). \n
